What Went Right
  • Wealth management income hit another record at $150M, up 6% QoQ and 12.8% YoY, with new advisors adding ~$6B in client assets over three years.
  • Average loans grew 2% QoQ with over half of growth in investment-grade credits; new commercial logos rose almost 40% in H1 2026 and small business checking production was up 7% YTD.
  • Credit continued to normalize: annualized net charge-offs fell 12bps QoQ to 42bps, business services criticized loans declined 14bps to 5.01%, and NPLs dropped 4bps to 0.67%.
What to Watch
  • Higher long-term rates are pressuring capital markets and mortgage income; Q3 capital markets income is expected to trend toward the lower end of the $90M-$105M quarterly range.
  • Ending deposits fell ~1% QoQ on seasonal tax refunds/payments, and competitive deposit pricing in the Southeast remains intense, though management downplayed the need for broad promotional pricing.
  • Management is monitoring softness in multifamily in a couple of Texas markets due to slower absorption and refinancing risk in a higher-rate environment.
Management Guidance
  • Q3 net interest income expected to increase approximately 2%; full-year NII growth guided to 2.5%-4%.
  • Full-year adjusted non-interest income growth of 3%-5%, tracking toward the lower end; Q3 capital markets income in the $90M-$105M range at the lower end.
  • Full-year adjusted non-interest expense up 1.5%-3.5% with positive adjusted operating leverage expected.
  • NIM expected to exit 2026 at approximately 3.70%; full-year average loans and deposits up low single digits; full-year net charge-offs of 40-50bps.
Investor Lens
The thesis is stronger after this call. Regions delivered high-quality loan growth, record wealth income, and improving credit while keeping deposit costs at a peer-leading 1.69%. NII is expected to grow again in Q3 and management reaffirmed positive operating leverage despite fees tracking toward the lower end of guidance. The balance sheet remains positioned for rate uncertainty, and capital return is a priority with a 13% dividend increase and expected higher buybacks.

📈 STRONG Strong quarter: adjusted EPS $0.68, revenue up 2%, credit improving.
Revenue
Adjusted total revenue was $1.947B, up 2.2% YoY, with NII up 2.3% QoQ to $1.291B on an FTE basis. Adjusted non-interest income rose 7.2% QoQ to $670M, helped by another record quarter in wealth management at $150M.
Profitability
Reported net income was $549M, or $0.64 per diluted share, while adjusted net income was $583M, or $0.68 per share — up 13% YoY on an adjusted EPS basis. Adjusted PPNR was $831M and adjusted ROTCE was 20%.
Margins
NIM was 3.66%, down 1bp QoQ, with interest-bearing deposit costs falling 3bps to 1.69%. Management expects NIM to exit 2026 at approximately 3.70% and maintains a mid-30s deposit beta outlook.
Balance Sheet
CET1 was 10.7% (9.5% inclusive of AOCI), within the target range. Liquidity remains robust with a 76% loan-to-deposit ratio, and the company issued $1.5B in unsecured debt at Treasuries plus 68bps while raising the quarterly dividend to $0.30.
Key Risks
Management flagged that higher long-term rates continue to dampen capital markets and mortgage activity, and cited some multifamily softness in a few Texas markets. Deposit competition remains intense, though Regions believes its funding advantage keeps it well-positioned.
Outlook
Q3 NII is expected to rise about 2%, with NIM exiting 2026 near 3.70%. The full-year outlook for positive operating leverage, low-single-digit loan and deposit growth, and net charge-offs of 40-50bps was reaffirmed.
