📊 MIXED PEBO reports Q1 2026 EPS of $0.81, announces merger with Citizens National Corp.
Revenue & Profitability
Q1 2026 Diluted EPS was $0.81, exceeding consensus of $0.80. Net interest income declined $629,000 linked quarter, while net interest margin expanded 4 basis points. Fee-based income grew $400,000, and provision for credit losses was $9.7 million. Net charge-off rate improved to 40 basis points annualized from 44 basis points in the prior quarter. Non-interest expenses rose $341,000, partly due to one-time employee-related costs.
Outlook
Management is cautious about the impact of the Iran conflict on oil prices and inflationary pressures on clients. The company expects net charge-offs to decrease in the second half of 2026. The regulatory environment is seen as favorable for bank mergers and acquisitions. Loan growth is anticipated at the low end of the 3%-5% range due to elevated payoffs and macroeconomic changes.
Growth Drivers
Key growth drivers include robust C&I loan origination ($111 million growth in Q1), expansion into Kentucky through the Citizens merger, and a planned ramp-up in small-ticket leasing origination in late 2026/early 2027. The company is also pursuing larger acquisitions ($2 billion-$5 billion) as a primary priority and may execute multiple small deals.
Balance Sheet & CapEx
Not discussed in this earnings call.
Margins
Net interest margin is guided at 4%-4.2% for 2026, including one 25 basis point rate cut. Core deposit costs declined 12 basis points in Q1. The merger is expected to provide a 15-20 basis point margin uplift in 2027. The company aims for positive operating leverage in 2026. The efficiency ratio was 58.6% for Q1, affected by one-time expenses and lower accretion income.
Key Risks
Risks flagged include geopolitical tensions (Iran) affecting oil prices and inflation, higher-than-expected net charge-offs (especially in small-ticket leasing), the negative revenue impact of the Durbin Amendment upon crossing $10 billion in assets ($10 million pre-tax, $11 million including Citizens), and uncertainty in the company's stock price. Payoff activity could pressure loan growth in the near term.

Projections are built from each company's audited annual financials (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) over the last 5 fiscal years. Forward assumptions — revenue growth %, EBITDA margin, D&A (USD millions), interest expense, tax rate, and capex — are AI-generated using historical context and refreshed twice a year: after the December results season and after the September/Q4 results season.
