What Went Right
  • Adjusted EPS beat expectations, helped by a $45M U.S. tariff refund and 6.4% gross productivity savings.
  • Delivered 10th consecutive quarter of positive volume plus mix, with global weighted share held flat.
  • Launched Arbex JV with Suzano and unveiled proprietary alternative natural fiber program; tissue innovation such as Viva gained 80bps of share in Q2.
What to Watch
  • China diaper social-media disruption: ~50bps organic sales hit in Q2 and expected ~$70M operating profit / ~$0.16 EPS headwind in H2.
  • North America shipments lagged consumption by ~170bps in Q2, due partly to retailer inventory reductions in adult care and one channel.
  • H2 gross input-cost inflation estimated at ~$150M, plus continued Middle East costs and weakening lower-income consumer sentiment.
Management Guidance
  • No explicit Q3 revenue or operating income guidance was provided on the call.
  • Full-year 2026 standalone outlook was lowered to reflect China disruption, ~$150M H2 gross inflation and ~$70M China operating profit impact; pricing actions are expected to keep pricing net of cost inflation roughly neutral for the year.
  • Kenvue acquisition remains on track to close by end of 2026; 2027 EPS/growth expectations will be updated closer to close.
Investor Lens
The strategic thesis remains broadly intact—management reiterated confidence in the Kenvue deal and the innovation pipeline, and the base business still posted positive volume/mix and strong productivity. However, near-term visibility is clouded by the China diaper issue, retailer destocking and rising Middle East-linked costs, which are hitting 2026 guidance. The quarter was a beat on bottom-line expectations but a miss on organic sales, so investors should expect choppy prints until China normalizes and the Kenvue close provides a clearer 2027 framework.

📊 MIXED Mixed quarter: EPS up 10.4%, but organic sales flat.
Revenue
Net sales were $4.2B, up 0.6%, including a 1.1% currency tailwind. Organic sales were broadly flat, with roughly 50bps negative impact from the China diaper disruption and North America retailer inventory reductions.
Profitability
GAAP operating profit was $633M versus $592M a year earlier; adjusted operating profit rose 6.2% to $757M. Adjusted EPS attributable to K-C was $2.12, up 10.4%, while adjusted EPS from continuing operations was $1.80, helped by the one-time tariff refund and productivity.
Margins
Adjusted gross margin expanded 190bps to 38.8%. Gains were driven by a $45M U.S. tariff refund and 6.4% gross productivity savings, partially offset by investments in new-product trial and supply-chain initiatives.
Balance Sheet
Net interest expense declined to $49M from $62M in the prior year. No explicit cash, debt or free-cash-flow figures were provided in the call.
Key Risks
Management flagged China diaper social-media disruption, retailer inventory reductions in North America, ~$150M H2 gross input-cost inflation, Middle East incremental costs and weakening lower-income consumer sentiment as key risks.
Outlook
The company revised its full-year 2026 outlook lower, embedding ~$150M H2 inflation and ~$70M China operating profit impact (~$0.16 EPS). It expects North America H2 growth to normalise on easier comps and innovation, while China improves only modestly and Kenvue closes by year-end.
