What Went Right
  • Data center momentum: Oracle 1.4 GW under construction, Google 1 GW filed at the MPSC, and a 5-6 GW pipeline with an additional agreement targeted by end-2026.
  • Q2 operating EPS of $1.32 keeps DTE on track; Vantage earnings up $14M and Energy Trading up $17M year-over-year in the quarter.
  • Reliability investments are delivering: outage duration improved 90% from 2023-2025, and upgraded grid areas performed noticeably better during the July storm.
  • Strong balance sheet execution: $500M of equity forwards priced in H1 2026 fully funds this year's equity plan.
What to Watch
  • July storm impacted ~400,000 customers with over 600 broken poles; restoration times extended beyond targets and triggered a post-storm lessons-learned review.
  • S&P downgraded Oracle's credit, still investment grade; contract-collateral protections exist but specific posting amounts are undisclosed.
  • Vantage data center project continues to face permitting delays at the original site; equipment is ordered but site resolution is still pending.
  • Regulatory approvals remain pending — Google contract, large load tariff, and electric rate-case stayout mechanism — with MPSC approval expected in September.
Management Guidance
  • No revenue guidance provided; 2026 operating EPS guidance maintained at $7.59-$7.73 with management expecting to reach the high end.
  • Long-term operating EPS growth target of 6%-8% through 2030; utility earnings expected to be 93% of total by 2030.
  • Potential electric rate case stayout until at least 2028, subject to regulatory mechanism approval and Oracle load ramp.
  • Equity issuance plan of $500M-$600M annually through 2028, with similar levels through 2030; 2026 equity needs already fulfilled.
  • Next IRP expected to be filed in Q3 2026; Google MPSC approval expected in September 2026.
Investor Lens
The thesis is stronger after this call: DTE has 2.4 GW of executed data center agreements, Oracle construction is on track, and a 5-6 GW pipeline could push EPS growth above 8%. High-end 2026 guidance remains intact and the equity funding plan is fully executed for the year. That said, Oracle's credit downgrade, the July storm restoration miss, and pending MPSC approvals are the key risks to watch. If another data center agreement is signed by year-end, the long-term target could see upside.

Key Risks
Management flagged the July storm's impact on restoration times, Oracle's credit downgrade and collateral protections, Vantage project permitting delays, and regulatory uncertainty around the Google contract and rate-case stayout mechanism.
Outlook
Full-year 2026 operating EPS guidance of $7.59-$7.73 was reaffirmed, with management targeting the high end. Google MPSC approval is expected in September; if Oracle ramps as planned, DTE may avoid another electric rate case until at least 2028 and could sign an additional data center agreement by year-end.
