What Went Right
  • DICK'S business delivered 6.0% comp growth on top of 4.5% last year, with broad-based strength across footwear, apparel, and hardlines.
  • Foot Locker business returned to positive pro forma comps (+0.6%), with the U.S. Foot Locker banner up 6.4% and overall Foot Locker segment profitable ($17.5M operating income).
  • Fast Break store remodels (now ~100 stores) generated double-digit comps and meaningful merch margin improvement, on track for ~250 by back-to-school.
  • Raised low end of full-year comp guidance for both DICK'S (now 2.5%-4%) and Foot Locker (now 1.5%-3%), and raised high end of DICK'S operating margin expectation to ~11.4%.
What to Watch
  • Consolidated non-GAAP gross margin declined 328 bps YoY to 33.42%, driven primarily by mix impact from the Foot Locker business.
  • Consolidated non-GAAP SG&A deleveraged 88 bps YoY, and DICK'S SG&A deleveraged 31 bps due to digital and store investments.
  • Effective tax rate increased ~150 bps vs. original expectation to ~27% for the full year, unfavorably impacting EPS by ~$0.25.
  • Foot Locker Europe is behind the U.S. turnaround; management expects it to lag through year-end.
Management Guidance
  • Full-year consolidated non-GAAP EPS guided at $13.50-$14.50.
  • Full-year DICK'S business comp sales growth expected at 2.5%-4.0% (raised low end); Foot Locker business pro forma comp sales growth at 1.5%-3.0% (raised low end).
  • Full-year Foot Locker operating income guided at $110M-$150M (raised low end); DICK'S operating margin at high end ~11.4%.
  • Net capital expenditures of ~$1.4B (split roughly 70/30 DICK'S/Foot Locker); effective tax rate ~27%.
Investor Lens
The thesis is materially stronger after this call. The core DICK'S business continues to gain share with 6% comps and broad-based demand, validating its premium positioning and investment in House of Sport/Field House. Foot Locker is showing early turnaround success with positive comps, profitable operations, and strong Fast Break store results, supporting confidence in a back-to-school inflection. Management raised comp guidance for both segments and maintained full-year EPS, indicating operational momentum. Risks include Foot Locker Europe lagging, tax headwinds, and macro uncertainty, but the overall trajectory is favorable.

📈 STRONG Strong Q1: DICK'S comps surge 6%, Foot Locker returns to positive territory.
Revenue
Consolidated revenue rose 62.7% to $5.17B, driven by a $1.79B contribution from Foot Locker and a 6.0% comp increase at DICK'S. DICK'S comp accelerated on top of a 4.5% increase last year, with broad strength across footwear, apparel, and hardlines.
Profitability
GAAP net income was $320M ($3.54 EPS) vs. $264M ($3.24 EPS) last year. Non-GAAP net income was $262M ($2.90 EPS) vs. $275M ($3.37 EPS), including the dilutive impact of 9.6M shares from the Foot Locker acquisition.
Margins
Consolidated non-GAAP operating margin was 7.33%, down 402 bps YoY primarily due to mix impact from Foot Locker. DICK'S operating margin was 10.69%. Gross margin declined 35 bps in DICK'S due to supply chain costs (fuel, new DC) and mix shift to trading cards. Full-year DICK'S gross margin is expected to expand.
Balance Sheet
Cash and cash equivalents ended at ~$1.0B with no borrowings on the $2B credit facility. Inventory was $5.42B, including Foot Locker; DICK'S inventory up only 3%. Net CapEx was $289M in Q1; full-year CapEx guided at ~$1.4B. $141M was used to repurchase 719,000 shares in Q1.
Key Risks
Management cited persistent fuel cost headwinds, higher effective tax rate (27% vs. prior 25.5%), and the timing of pre-opening expenses for House of Sport as near-term pressures. Additionally, the European Foot Locker business is behind the U.S. turnaround and expected to lag through year-end.
Outlook
For the full year, management maintained non-GAAP EPS guidance of $13.50-$14.50. They raised the low end of comp guidance for both DICK'S (to 2.5%-4.0%) and Foot Locker (to 1.5%-3.0%), and now expect DICK'S operating margin to reach ~11.4% at the high end.
