📊 MIXED Record Q2 FY2026: Sales up 9% to $906M, EPS $1.28, guidance maintained
Revenue & Profitability
Net sales were $906M, up 9% year-over-year. Operating income was $114M, up from $93M, and net income was $79M compared to $64M. Diluted EPS was a record $1.28. Adjusted EBITDA was $139M, with margin of 15.4% vs 14.8%.
Outlook
Management is cautiously optimistic, noting strong consumption when weather is favorable, but the critical May selling period remains ahead. Consumers are value-seeking, driving channel shifts to mass, club, and e-commerce, as well as growth in private label. Raw material inflation (urea, fuel) is a headwind but considered manageable.
Growth Drivers
Key growth levers include strength in pet consumables (dog & cat, equine, professional) and garden categories (grass seed, fertilizer, wild bird). Distribution gains and market share wins were achieved in both segments. Innovation (e.g., Nylabone with real meat, The Rebels grass seed) and private label programs are also contributing.
Balance Sheet & CapEx
Capital expenditure guidance for fiscal 2026 is $50M-$60M, focused on maintenance and targeted productivity/growth initiatives. This was consistent with the prior year's CapEx of around $10M per quarter.
Margins
Gross margin was 33.1%, up 30 bps, supported by productivity gains and favorable mix in pet. Operating margin improved to 12.6% vs 11.2%. Pet segment operating margin rose to 16.3% (from 13.4%) while Garden operating margin remained relatively consistent at 15.4%. SG&A declined as a percentage of sales to 20.5%.
Key Risks
Key risks include weather dependence (especially May for live goods), raw material inflation (urea, fuel) due to geopolitical events, promotional intensity at retail, and consumer value-seeking behavior. The joint venture is expected to be slightly dilutive in the near term ($0.03-$0.05 EPS in H2).

Financial Model
Projections are built from each company's audited annual financials (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) over the last 5 fiscal years. Forward assumptions — revenue growth %, EBITDA margin, D&A (USD millions), interest expense, tax rate, and capex — are AI-generated using historical context and refreshed twice a year: after the December results season and after the September/Q4 results season.
