Everything you need to get started with the Portfolio Manager's 13 tabs

What You Will Master

The Portfolio Manager is Finmagine's most comprehensive tool โ€” a full-featured web app that tracks everything you own and watch across Indian equities, mutual funds, and global holdings. It works alongside the Finmagine browser extensions to pull your broker positions automatically, so your portfolio is always up to date without manual entry.

What This Guide Covers:

  1. How data gets into the Portfolio Manager โ€” adding trades, browser extension sync, multi-broker support
  2. The Stats Strip โ€” reading your portfolio's live XIRR, index-beat, and daily movers at a glance
  3. Asset Class Pills โ€” filtering the view across Indian Equities, Global Equities, Mutual Funds, and Global Funds
  4. All 13 tabs โ€” what each tab does and when to use it
  5. Free vs Premium access โ€” which tabs are available on each tier

Who This Is For:

  • Long-term equity investors โ€” track cost-basis, XIRR, 3Y/5Y CAGR, and whether you are beating the index on each holding
  • Active traders โ€” monitor live P&L, stop-loss alerts, and momentum signals across all positions in one view
  • Multi-broker investors โ€” consolidate Zerodha, Upstox, Groww, Sharekhan, Angel, mStock, ICICI Direct, HDFC Sec, and INDMoney positions into one dashboard
How many tabs does the Portfolio Manager have?
13 tabs: Holdings, Alloted, Consider, Add More, Watchlist, Charts, Alerts, Journal, Backtest, Rebalance, Momentum, Vintage (Analytics), and Settings.
What is XIRR and why does the Portfolio Manager show it?
XIRR (Extended Internal Rate of Return) is the annualised return that accounts for the timing of each buy and sell. Unlike simple P&L%, XIRR tells you your actual compounded annual return โ€” the number that reflects real-world investing with staggered purchases.
What do the N50 and N500 columns in Holdings mean?
N50 and N500 are index-beat columns โ€” they show your P&L% minus the Nifty 50 (or Nifty 500) return from your purchase date to today. Green means you beat the index; red means the index outperformed your holding over the same period.
What are the three Smart View tabs and what do they filter for?
Alloted (ALL broker positions โ‰ฅ threshold% โ€” fully committed stocks), Consider (total invested < limit โ€” under-allocated stocks worth adding to), and Add More (ANY broker position < threshold% โ€” stocks where at least one broker position is thin). All thresholds are configurable in Settings.
What are the five Asset Class Pills?
Indian Equities (๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ IN_EQ), Global Equities (๐ŸŒ GL_EQ), Mutual Funds (๐Ÿฆ IN_MF), Global Funds (๐ŸŒ GL_MF), and Overview (๐Ÿ“Š ALL). Selecting a pill filters Holdings, Alloted, Consider, and Add More to show only that asset class. Overview shows everything combined.
Which tabs are Premium-only?
Rebalance and Momentum Streaks are Premium features. All other tabs โ€” Holdings, Smart Views, Watchlist, Charts, Alerts, Journal, Backtest, Vintage, and Settings โ€” are available to all logged-in users.
What does the Invest โ‚น bar in Holdings do?
Enter a target investment amount (e.g. โ‚น50,000) and the table shows an "Add Qty" column for each holding โ€” the number of shares you could buy at the current LTP for that amount. Useful when you want to top up existing positions systematically.
How many brokers does the Portfolio Manager support?
Nine brokers: Zerodha, Upstox, Groww, Sharekhan, Angel, mStock, ICICI Direct, HDFC Sec, and INDMoney. Each shows as a separate column in Holdings with that broker's position percentage. The Finmagine browser extension syncs positions automatically when you visit your broker's portfolio page.

Getting Your Portfolio Data In

Adding Trades Manually

Click the + Add Trade button in the top-right header. Fill in the stock symbol (NSE ticker), quantity, buy price, purchase date, and the broker you used. The trade appears immediately in Holdings with live price data. You can also add sells to record exits and realised P&L.

Extension Sync (Recommended)

The Finmagine browser extensions for Zerodha, Upstox, Groww, and other supported brokers automatically detect your holdings when you visit your broker's portfolio page and push the position data to Finmagine. Once synced, each broker's allocation percentage appears as a column in Holdings โ€” so if you hold Titan across three brokers, you see three separate position columns in one row.

Why broker position columns matter: The Alloted, Consider, and Add More smart views work by comparing your positions across brokers. A stock where Zerodha = 8%, Upstox = 7%, and Groww = 9% is clearly Alloted. A stock where only Zerodha = 3% and the others are 0% flags as Add More โ€” you have a small position and room to build.

Supported Asset Classes

The Portfolio Manager supports four asset classes, selectable via the Asset Class Pills below the tab bar:

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Indian Equities ๐ŸŒ Global Equities ๐Ÿฆ Mutual Funds ๐ŸŒ Global Funds ๐Ÿ“Š Overview

Indian Equities is the default. Switching to Overview shows all asset classes combined in one table. Vintage cohort analysis works only on Indian Equities (IN_EQ) holdings.

5-Step Getting Started Workflow

Step 1 โ€” Add your holdings

Click + Add Trade and enter each stock: symbol, quantity, price, date, broker. Do this for all open positions. If you use a supported broker, install the Finmagine extension and visit your broker's portfolio page to sync positions automatically โ€” broker position percentages will then populate in the Holdings table.

Step 2 โ€” Set up your Settings

Click the โš™ Settings tab and configure the thresholds that make sense for your portfolio size. If you invest โ‚น50,000 per stock, set the Consider limit to โ‚น50,000. If you target 5% per broker, leave the Alloted and Add More thresholds at default. These settings drive the three Smart View tabs instantly.

Step 3 โ€” Review Holdings and Smart Views

Open Holdings to see the full picture sorted by invested amount. Switch to Alloted to see which positions are well-built. Switch to Consider to find stocks worth adding to. Switch to Add More to find positions that are thin in at least one broker account. These three views replace manual spreadsheet work.

Step 4 โ€” Monitor your Watchlist

Go to Watchlist โ€” your holdings appear automatically. Add any stocks you are researching. The Review Holdings card at the top checks all your positions for sell signals: stop-loss breach, overvaluation, pledge spike, promoter exit, D/E deterioration, ROCE decline, and consecutive revenue misses. ๐Ÿšฉ flags appear inline on Holdings rows for stocks with active signals.

Daily routine: The Portfolio Manager's most powerful habit is a 2-minute daily check โ€” Stats Strip for portfolio health, Alerts for any stop-loss hits, and Watchlist's Review Holdings card for new sell signals. Everything else (Backtest, Rebalance, Vintage) is a deeper weekly or quarterly review.

Step 5 โ€” Use analytical tabs for periodic reviews

Run Backtest monthly to see how your portfolio performed vs benchmark. Use Vintage (Analytics) quarterly to understand which era of buying has compounded best. Use Rebalance (Premium) when you want to bring your portfolio back to target weights after a significant market move. Check Momentum Streaks (Premium) weekly to see which holdings have sustained technical momentum signals.
