The Morning Brief Workflow

Four phases, 12+ tools, one daily briefing — assembled by Claude automatically

What the Morning Brief Workflow Does

Each morning before the NSE opens, this workflow answers four questions in sequence: Is the market in a good state for new positions?Which sectors and industries are actually moving? What events happened overnight? What are the highest-conviction ideas right now?

Claude calls 12–15 Finmagine tools automatically, weaves the results together, and delivers a structured briefing in 3–5 minutes. It is repeatable — run the same prompt every morning and you get a fresh briefing without changing anything.

The Four Phases:

  1. Market Setup — Breakout conditions, breadth trend, top movers, circuit stocks, momentum leaders
  2. Sector Rotation — RRG quadrants, Stage 2 industries, RS velocity changes, Nifty 50 large-cap positioning
  3. Event Flow — Insider trades, order wins, bulk/block deals, corporate actions, PEAD candidates, ECS leaderboard
  4. Conviction Shortlist — Multi-preset confluence, synthesis, actionable ideas
What does get_breakout_conditions return?
Nifty 50's close vs EMA-21 and EMA-50, with a verdict: ABOVE_BOTH (conditions favourable for breakout trades), ABOVE_21_ONLY (mixed), or BELOW_BOTH (risk-off). Add ?days=5 for a 5-day history to see the trend.
What is the RRG quadrant sequence for a recovering sector?
A recovering sector moves Lagging → Improving → Leading → Weakening (clockwise). Improving sectors (RS-Momentum rising, RS-Ratio below 100) are the sweet spot for early entries — strength is just beginning to build relative to the benchmark.
What is the Conviction Ranking?
Stocks that appear in 3 or more Finmagine screener presets simultaneously (e.g., VCP + Stage2 + Near52WH). The more presets a stock appears in, the stronger the multi-factor confluence. get_conviction_ranking with min_matches=3 filters for at least 3-preset overlap.
What is an ECS score and what does a high score mean?
The Earnings Catalyst Score is a composite post-earnings quality metric covering Net Profit growth (YoY + QoQ), Sales growth (YoY + QoQ), EBIT growth (YoY + QoQ), and CFO/PAT backing. A high ECS means the company beat on most dimensions. get_ecs_leaderboard returns the top 25 for the latest quarter.
Why do promoter buy trades in a high-RS stock matter?
Insider buying (promoter purchases via NSE Form D) signals management confidence in near-term outlook. When a promoter buys in a stock already showing RS momentum, it adds a fundamental conviction layer to a technical signal — the combination is a classic high-probability setup.
What is a PEAD candidate?
Post-Earnings Announcement Drift (PEAD) candidate: a stock showing a confirmed volume surge and price drift 5–45 days after its earnings release. The anomaly is that markets underreact to strong earnings, and the drift continues for weeks. get_pead_candidates returns current drift stocks.
What is Stage 2 in the Weinstein classification?
Stage 2 (Advancing) is the optimal buy zone in Stan Weinstein's Stage Analysis framework. It follows Stage 1 (base-building) and precedes Stage 3 (topping). Industries in Stage 2 have their average stock above the 30-week MA with expanding RS. get_industry_stages returns the current stage for every NSE industry.
How do I find RS gainers — stocks just starting to accelerate?
get_rs_changes with direction=gainers, min_delta=15, days=7. This returns stocks whose RS rating jumped 15+ points in the last week — early momentum acceleration that often precedes price breakouts. These are the names to watch, not necessarily act on yet.

The Four-Phase Structure

The morning brief workflow is divided into four sequential phases. Each phase builds on the previous one — you end with a conviction shortlist grounded in the market regime identified in Phase 1.

Phase 1
Market Setup
get_breakout_conditions · get_market_breadth · get_top_movers · get_circuit_stocks · get_market_momentum
Phase 2
Sector Rotation
get_sector_rrg · get_industry_stages · get_index_constituents · get_rs_changes
Phase 3
Event Flow
get_order_wins_feed · get_insider_feed · get_bulk_block_deals · get_corporate_actions_feed · get_pead_candidates · get_ecs_leaderboard
Phase 4
Conviction Shortlist
get_conviction_ranking · synthesis across all prior phases
Why this sequence? You want to know the regime before you look at individual stocks. If breadth is contracting and Nifty is below both EMAs, even a high-ECS company deserves more caution. The top-down order prevents the common mistake of fixating on a good-looking stock while missing a deteriorating market backdrop.

Phase 1: Market Setup

Phase 1 answers: Is today a good environment for new positions? Two data points drive this: the breakout condition verdict and the breadth trend.

Breakout Conditions api_pro+

get_breakout_conditions returns whether Nifty 50 is above or below its EMA-21 and EMA-50. Three possible verdicts:

Add ?days=5 to see the last 5 trading days. A verdict that flipped from BELOW_BOTH to ABOVE_21_ONLY in the last two sessions is early confirmation of a regime shift — more significant than a stable ABOVE_BOTH reading.

Market Breadth Trend api_pro+

get_market_breadth returns 30 days of advances/declines and the % of NSE stocks above their 10, 20, and 40-day moving averages. Focus on the 40-day MA line — it tells you whether the overall market is in an accumulation or distribution phase, regardless of where Nifty itself is trading.

A market where Nifty is near highs but the % above the 40-day MA is falling is a deteriorating breadth divergence — the index is being held up by a shrinking number of large-caps while the rest of the market weakens. That is a regime that warrants smaller position sizes.

Top Movers + Circuit Stocks api_pro+

get_top_movers gives the biggest price movers for the prior session. Cross-check against get_circuit_stocks — any Nifty 500 name hitting a circuit is worth investigating further. Circuit stocks (especially upper circuits) often precede continued momentum as news disseminates slowly in smaller-cap names.

Phase 2: Sector Rotation

Phase 2 answers: Which sectors and industries have the strongest tailwinds right now? The RRG and Stage Analysis tell you where institutional money is rotating.

Sector RRG Quadrants api_pro+

get_sector_rrg returns all 18 NSE sectors classified into four RRG quadrants based on RS-Ratio (strength vs Nifty 500) and RS-Momentum (rate of change of that strength):

Industry Stage Classification api_pro+

get_industry_stages returns Weinstein Stage 1–4 for every NSE industry. Stage 2 (Advancing) is the sweet spot — stocks in Stage 2 industries have their strongest probability of continuing upward. The key cross-check: do the Stage 2 industries overlap with the Leading or Improving sectors from RRG? When they do, the signal is stronger.

RS Velocity — Early Acceleration api_pro+

get_rs_changes finds stocks whose RS rating jumped the most in the last 7–10 days. These are early-stage momentum accelerations — the stock may not be at a high RS absolute level yet, but it's climbing fast. Set min_delta=15 to filter for meaningful moves, not noise.

Phase 3: Event Flow

Phase 3 answers: What happened in the last 24–48 hours that is worth knowing? Three categories matter: promoter signals, order book momentum, and earnings drift.

Insider Buys in Strong Stocks api_pro+

get_insider_feed with type=buy&min_value_cr=5 returns promoter/director purchase transactions above ₹5 Crore. The most significant signal: a promoter buying in a stock that is already in the top RS decile. That is management putting personal capital behind momentum — the rare combination of fundamental and technical conviction from the same company.

Note on filing lag: NSE Form D disclosures arrive 1–10 business days after the actual trade. A "yesterday" insider buy in the feed may have been transacted a week ago. Use this for directional signal, not day-trading triggers.

Order Wins Feed api_pro+

get_order_wins_feed returns AI-extracted contract announcements across ~300 NSE companies in the last 30 days. Best coverage is in infrastructure, defence, and capital goods. When the ECS leaderboard (strong earnings) and the order wins feed (strong future revenue visibility) overlap on the same company, that is a high-quality setup.

ECS Leaderboard + PEAD Candidates api_pro+

get_ecs_leaderboard returns the top 25 stocks by Earnings Catalyst Score for the latest quarter. get_pead_candidates returns stocks currently showing post-earnings drift — price continuing to move in the direction of the earnings surprise 5–45 days after the report. A stock appearing on both lists has delivered strong earnings and the market is still pricing it in.

Bulk and Block Deals api_pro+

get_bulk_block_deals shows institutional buy/sell transactions. A large block deal buy by a mutual fund or FII in a stock already on the ECS leaderboard suggests smart money is positioning ahead of a re-rating.

Phase 4: Conviction Shortlist

get_conviction_ranking pulls stocks appearing in 3 or more Finmagine screener presets simultaneously. This is multi-factor confluence — the same stock passes VCP criteria, Stage 2 criteria, Near-52W High criteria, and others at the same time. Use min_matches=3 as the floor; min_matches=4 for the tightest list.

The final synthesis step asks Claude to cross-reference the conviction ranking with Phase 2's sector rotation results. If the conviction stock is in a Leading RRG sector and a Stage 2 industry and had a promoter buy in the last 14 days and is on the ECS leaderboard — that convergence is rare and actionable.

Phase 1 — Market Setup
1. Check get_breakout_conditions for the last 5 days. Is Nifty above both EMAs, only the 21-day, or below both? Has the verdict changed in the last 2 sessions?
2. Pull 20 days of get_market_breadth. Is the % of stocks above the 40-day MA expanding (accumulation) or contracting (distribution)? Note the trend direction.
3. Get today's top 10 gainers from get_top_movers. Then check get_circuit_stocks — are any Nifty 500 names at the upper circuit?
4. Pull the top 20 momentum stocks from get_market_momentum. Which two sectors dominate the list? Any RS ratings above 90?

Phase 2 — Sector Rotation
5. Call get_sector_rrg and list which sectors are in the Leading quadrant right now. Which are Improving (early entry opportunity)? Which crossed from Improving to Leading in the last month (use as_of=1m for comparison)?
6. Call get_industry_stages and list every industry currently in Stage 2. Do any of these Stage 2 industries belong to the Leading sectors from the RRG step?
7. Call get_rs_changes with days=7, direction=gainers, min_delta=15. These are early-acceleration stocks — flag any in Stage 2 industries.

Phase 3 — Event Flow
8. Check get_insider_feed with type=buy and min_value_cr=5, last 14 days. Note any promoter buys in stocks with RS rating above 70.
9. Check get_order_wins_feed for the last 14 days. Flag any deal above ₹500 Cr.
10. Call get_ecs_leaderboard for the latest quarter, top 15. Call get_pead_candidates. Is any stock appearing on both lists?
11. Check get_bulk_block_deals for the last 7 days. Any institutional buy in an ECS top-15 stock?

Phase 4 — Conviction Shortlist
12. Call get_conviction_ranking with min_matches=3, top 20. Which stocks from this list are also in Stage 2 industries from Phase 2?

Synthesis
Based on everything above: (1) What is today's market regime — offensive, defensive, or selective? (2) Name three actionable ideas with one-line thesis each. (3) Name one stock to watch but not yet act on — explain the condition that would change that.
Running this every morning: The prompt is stateless — it always pulls the latest data. Bookmark it or save it in a text file. The only thing that changes each day is what the tools return. Over time, running this daily gives you an intuitive sense of regime changes well before they become obvious.
